GONE FISHING WITH SEIKO

Image
We decided to walk at Liberty Station this morning. It's the former Naval Training Center, set up about 100 years ago to train naval recruits. A decade or so ago it was privatized and turned into housing, recreation areas, space for civic organizations, and commercial shops. I prefer to avoid all that and go to the canal behind the developed areas. Here's the salt water channel that runs up to what was once the San Diego River's entrance into the bay (now the river goes straight to the ocean). There must be plenty of fish in this channel, because the birds are busy finding their breakfast. Here's a brown pelican. Or two, trespassing on government property. I believe this is a cormorant. We stopped to watch this bird fishing OK, he has it now but must toss it in the air and take it head-first. The fish was NOT cooperating with this plan, and the bird lost it 3 times. But each time it was caught again, until he managed to choke it down. We walked from one end to the other...

WALKING ON THE OTHER SIDE (of the water)

We went across the bridge this morning, as shown below. From  the right/East (San Diego) to the left/West (Coronado).  If you see water in this story's photos, we are looking eastward at San Diego.   Even though we only walked a couple miles, there's plenty to see and do along the beach or waterfront. An early morning fisherman suits up... A paddleboarder braves the commercial waters, in t-shirt and shorts yet! It's not THAT warm, either the air or the water. Our path takes us through the bridge, which in a non-verbal way is marked "off limits" We pity the poor golfers, trapped inside this huge fenced enclosure, forced to play endless rounds of golf... Some fans of public art situated this piece on the sidewalk. It's called Penelope (the wife of Odysseus in Homer’s epic The Odyssey).  I like examining the architecture of this hotel more than I do the bronze head. And I couldn't figure out why these pink flamingos are only pink on their joints! Do flamingos...

SOMEONE IS WATCHING ME!

Image
I wore a dressy Grand Seiko this morning. I raced out of the house at 6 am trying to catch the sunrise, but in 2 minutes it was gone.  So I drove down to the "Big Bay" as our Port District likes to call this body of water, and walked there. I saw the old and discarded standing guard over the new and unwanted...  Thankfully no one has objected to or damaged this nice stature outside our County Administration building... Whirling around to the West, I see a sailboat contrasting with an aircraft carrier ... Go left says the traffic arrow. As I continued along the waterfront, I passed homeless people sleeping. I myself was passed by women running, a guy roller-blading, and a flurry of electric bikes. But I felt "Watched" Then I saw him; and yes he had been watching me I was carrying the big camera today, hence the "reach" and eyeball view of the hungry raptor looking for his breakfast. Finally, for all bike fans, wouldn't this worry you?  A precarious park...
