URBAN BRIDGES GS

Image
This morning started at the bench when I had to replace a battery and lengthen a bracelet. This is another watch I have reclaimed from my wife for a few wearings.  Notice the dial is cracked between 11 and 12. I wonder how that happened? We decided to walk in the city and pick up a few of the bridges mentioned the other day by San Francisco reader Patrick_y. At the moment it's not possible for us to be out for 5 miles, but here's a  LINK TO 7 BRIDGES WALK . The Spruce Street Suspension Bridge (built 1912) is appropriately called by kids as “The Wiggly Bridge.”  It’s 375 feet long and hangs seventy feet above Kate Sessions Canyon, anchored by steel suspension cables (redone 2010 to modern standards). A suspension bridge which still flexes alarmingly when you cross it, evoking thoughts of  Raiders of the Lost Ark ?  The Man Who Would Be King ? A long way to fall but at least it's not rocks or a raging river... This wire end clamp is amazingly large. We are in an a...

SEIKO GS 7 to 11

Dear Readers, I must apologize for a break in our rhythm. I recently learned my friend John has never ridden in a Lotus OR a convertible. He's 65! Of course I today we can resolve both those deficiencies. Yesterday I washed the wheels, changed the oil, drained flushed and refilled the cooling system, and checked the tire pressures. No holding back this Friday morning! I did manage to leave the house at the usual time, under the same moon, with an SBGW033 on my wrist.  Only instead of heading to the trail with my wife, I was going much farther today. I walked all the way out to the driveway. Where the car was waiting; of course the top was down. What you can't see is the 45ยบ F air and you can't see the wind chill factor. I have on two Rohan layers, a yak wool sweater, and a Columbia Titanium Jacket liner. And a Seattle Yacht club sailing jacket over the top. I waddled like the Michelin Man into the donut shop and got two apple fritters. Mine was fantastic! I assume John'...

TAKING THE FIFTH ON THE RIVER

Image
We started a bit past dawn today and went over to the San Diego River, in a section I hadn't walked for 15 years. It's West of the native plant garden and East of the areas we've shown before. This is in the heart of shopping malls, new condominium complexes, and the random homeless encampment (I won't show you those). It was peaceful as we started our walk. Mrs C spotted these doves keeping social distance on the branch. I on the other hand had my eyes in the sky, watching the moon in the west A seagull was taking a noisy bath in the river, watched closely by two of his friends. I think the one in the middle was a female. The one in the foreground said, "I'm outta here" and took off at just the moment I pressed the shutter. A nice variety of colors highlighted by the rising sun. Looking eastward toward a large hotel. Condos on the left (north) bank. Here we are under the trolley bridge and crossing to the north bank of the river. Along this river road t...
